SpaceX, under a contract with the US Department of Defense, will provide Ukraine with expanded access to a militarised version of its satellite network, Starlink, according to a report by Bloomberg. This move comes as part of efforts to bolster Ukraine’s connectivity and communication resilience amid ongoing war.
The contract will see the integration of 2,500 Starlink terminals already deployed in Ukraine into the Starshield system, an advanced, secure version of Starlink. These will join 500 terminals previously connected to Starshield, bringing the total to 3,000 devices under the agreement.
Enhanced Security with Starshield
Starshield offers a more robust and secure communication platform compared to standard Starlink services. Designed for military and government use, Starshield utilises encrypted and classified signals, making them significantly harder to intercept or disrupt.
