Israel says top IRGC intelligence commander eliminated in Tehran

Date:

Israel says it has killed the head of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps’ intelligence organisation, Major General Majid Khademi, in a strike in Tehran, in a further escalation of the war between Israel and Iran. Iranian state media confirmed Khademi’s death on Monday, 6 April, but did not initially give full details of the circumstances.

According to reports, Khademi was killed in an attack directed against him in the Iranian capital. Iranian officials blamed both the United States and Israel. Israeli Defence Minister Israel Katz said, however, that the operation had been carried out by Israel and signalled that Israeli attacks on senior Iranian figures would continue.

The precise location of the strike was not immediately disclosed by the Iranian side. Reports said that several air strikes hit areas around Tehran on the morning of 6 April. The Israeli military also confirmed that Khademi, together with another senior IRGC intelligence official, had been killed in Tehran.

Khademi had taken over as head of IRGC intelligence in June 2025 after the death of his predecessor, Mohammad Kazemi, who was also reported killed in an earlier Israeli strike. His death marks another blow to Iran’s senior security structure at a time when Israeli and American military pressure on the country has intensified sharply.

The killing comes amid a broader regional conflict that has already expanded beyond direct exchanges between Israel and Iran. Associated Press reported on Monday that Israeli and US strikes had caused further casualties inside Iran, while Iranian missile retaliation had continued against Israeli targets. Diplomatic efforts by regional mediators to secure even a temporary ceasefire have so far produced no public breakthrough.

Katz said Israel would continue targeting senior Iranian figures. His remarks indicated that Israeli operations remain focused not only on military sites and infrastructure, but also on members of Iran’s leadership and security apparatus. Tehran has continued to describe the attacks as joint US-Israeli action, while Israeli officials have publicly said that Israel carried out the strike.
