Stephen Yaxley-Lennon, better known as Tommy Robinson, has been arrested in connection with an alleged assault at Londonās St Pancras railway station that left a man with serious injuries.
The 42-year-old was detained by British Transport Police (BTP) at Luton Airport on Sunday evening after arriving on a flight from Faro, Portugal.
The arrest relates to an incident that took place on the evening of 28 July. According to BTP, officers were called to reports of an assault at the central London transport hub at approximately 8.40pm. A man was found at the scene with what police described as āserious injuriesā and was taken to hospital for treatment. He has since been discharged and is understood to have provided a statement to investigators.
Robinson was identified as a suspect shortly after the incident, but left the UK in the early hours of 29 July, reportedly travelling to Tenerife. In a statement issued on Monday night, BTP confirmed that Robinson had been arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm (GBH) and taken into custody for questioning.
āOfficers from BTP have tonight arrested a 42-year-old man from Bedfordshire in connection to an assault at St Pancras station on July 28,ā a spokesperson said. āThe arrest took place at Luton airport shortly after 6.30pm, following a notification that the man had boarded an incoming flight from Faro. The man had been wanted for questioning after leaving the country.ā
Footage published by The Sun appears to show Robinson being met by five police officers on the tarmac at Luton Airport before being escorted into a waiting police van. In the clip, Robinson is seen engaging with officers as he is detained.
Additional video, recorded at the time of the incident at St Pancras, was circulated on social media and appears to capture part of the confrontation. A man is seen speaking agitatedly while another individual lies motionless on the ground. The standing man can be heard stating: āHe f—— come at me. He come at me bruv.ā He then addresses another individual nearby, saying: āHe come at me bruv, you saw that.ā
Police have not confirmed whether this footage forms part of the investigation or whether the man speaking in the clip is Robinson. The nature of the altercation, the identity of the victim, and the cause of the injuries sustained have not been publicly disclosed.
BTP initially described the situation as an ongoing inquiry, stating last week that officers were āmaking arrest enquiriesā and later confirming that the suspect had left the country. The timing of Robinsonās return flight and subsequent arrest suggests that authorities had been monitoring his movements.
Robinson is a controversial figure in British public life, known for his past leadership of the English Defence League (EDL), which he founded in 2009 and later left in 2013. He has faced repeated legal proceedings over the past decade, including convictions for public order offences, fraud, and contempt of court. He has previously denied being a racist or extremist and has stated that his actions are motivated by opposition to Islamic extremism.
There has been no formal comment from Robinson or his legal representatives regarding the latest arrest. As of Monday night, he remained in custody awaiting interview.
British Transport Police have not indicated whether charges will be brought and have appealed for witnesses to come forward. In particular, investigators are likely to be examining CCTV from St Pancras and any additional footage shared online.
The incident has renewed scrutiny of Robinsonās public activities and raised questions about whether his presence in a public setting such as St Pancras contributed to the escalation of the confrontation. No further details have been released about the circumstances leading up to the alleged assault.
